Albert Merz

Zweisicht

25/08/19–03/11/19

The Berlin-based Swiss painter Albert Merz (*1942) presented an interesting artistic position that moves between figuration, abstraction and concrete painting.

His paintings, often divided into two parts, create a poetic, sometimes analytical interplay of motifs that focus on essentials and gain their special meaning through pointed contrasts. In his “double-sighted” pictorial world, Albert Merz addresses different realities and challenges the viewer to look at things anew in their duality. Images and signs, the contemporary and the mythical, the technical and the vegetal come together mysteriously in his pictures. Albert Merz works symbolically abstract and vividly at the same time.
