7TH NIGHT OF LIGHT ART

HELLWEG - EIN LICHTWEG

Sat, 26/10/24, 1–9 pm

1–5 pm
Light journey to Unna
The destination is the Center for International Light Art, the world's first and only museum of its kind. In the vaulted cellars of the old Linden brewery, light travelers will not only experience selected highlights from the permanent exhibition, which houses installations by world stars of light art. There is also a guided tour of the temporary exhibition “RADIANT”, which creates a unity of light, sound and space with its special audiovisual experiences. We from the scientific team of the Kunstmuseum Ahlen will accompany the journey and get into conversation with the participants. The light journey starts at the Kunstmuseum Ahlen.

6.30–8 pm & 7–9 pm
Family tour and adult tour “Set in the light!”
“800 years of Ahlen": On the occasion of the city's anniversary, we will walk to seven selected locations in the city center, which will catch the eye on this evening with a special light staging. Participants on the tour will encounter Ahlen's medieval beginnings, an old gatekeeper's house, an old industrial ruin and much more.  Told stories, local experts and “secret” insights shed light on exciting chapters of Ahlen's history. Small surprises and refreshments round off the tour.

The family tour starts at 6.30 pm at the local history museum and ends at the art museum. At the end, participants can get creative in the museum studio and create a souvenir painting with “light painting”. The tour for adults takes the opposite route, starting at 7 p.m. at the light artworks at the art museum and ending at the local history museum. All participants are asked to bring their own flashlight for the tours! The number of participants is limited.

Magic Show

Fri, 29/11/24, 7 pm

Dr. Alex Romanoff from Hamburg is a master of magic and has a doctorate in its history from the Goethe University in Frankfurt. He has researched the lives and art of the most famous magicians in Britain between 1860 and 1910 in order to understand the artistic expression of the impossible. For him, magic is a modern art form through which unique and incredible experiences are created. On this evening, Dr. Romanoff will introduce the art of magic with a short lecture, followed by a show to amaze and discover. A fantastic opportunity to check your own perception. Seeing and hearing, believing and doubting, trusting and being misled - what are we willing or able to engage with? How are magic and psychology connected? Can we trust our eyes?

What actually is
reality?

Evening of dialogue with Dr. Matthias Warkus

Wed, 11/12/24, 7 pm

Do things exist that are not real? Does the word ‘things’ already mean that they are real? Why is it still possible to talk about all kinds of unreal things? And what about everything that is not tangible or even invisible, but is nevertheless real - such as electrons, magnetic fields, contracts or current accounts? These are just some of the questions that philosophy deals with in connection with the concept of reality. Traditionally, ontology as a sub-discipline of metaphysics is considered the methodological place for this.

Dr. Matthias Warkus completed his doctorate at the Philipps University of Marburg in 2014 with an award-winning thesis on the concept of change. He works as a freelance journalist and lecturer in Jena. Communicating philosophy to the public is one of his main areas of work, which has been reflected in a column published by Spektrum.de since 2017 and numerous public lectures, including at science slams. This entertaining evening of dialogue aims to shed light on the philosophical background to the question of reality, including its (often entertaining) contradictions and absurdities, while building bridges to art in general and the ‘Reality Check’ exhibition in particular.
