Concrete poetry

Fri, 09/05/25, 7 pm

Poetry as sound, material and subtle play with language that leads to new listening and perceptual experiences! A literary performance between Dadaism and concrete poetry by and with Timo Berndt. The actor, who has performed at many state theaters and stages in Germany and Europe, writes and presents literary programs as part of art exhibitions and concerts. With works by 25 artists, including protagonists such as Kurt Schwitters, Velimir Khlebnikov, Ernst Jandl and Eugen Gomringer as well as female authors and contemporary interpretations, he follows in the footsteps of “concrete” poetry.

Concrete questions to concrete art

Scientific symposium

Thu, 22/05/25 – Fri, 23/05/25

Is Concrete Art still alive after a hundred years? Is there future potential in the idea of Concrete or has it been used up? How far has the concrete universe expanded since the big bang in 1924? And what are its limits - in terms of content, form, art and theory? What does it mean for artists today to work 'concretely'? Are we using the right terms in research and education when we write and talk about concrete art or do we need new ones? What is the social value of concrete art? And: are we finally looking beyond the Western horizon when we deal with the present and past of concrete art?
In our exhibition work, we, the Ahlen Art Museum and the Conceptual Art Foundation, are constantly asking ourselves questions like these about the topicality of Concrete Art. On the occasion of the third edition of the exhibition series Hellweg Konkret, to which ten museums and institutions from the region have joined forces this time, we would like to enter into a discussion with artists, academics and experts from universities, museums and galleries
We ask for your understanding that the number of participants is limited to 60 people due to our spatial conditions.

Conference venue: Kunstmuseum Ahlen
