Andreas Horlitz

Reflection

10/03/19–19/05/19

The exhibition Andreas Horlitz – Reflection was the first retrospective of well-known works and works from the estate to be presented in Ahlen for the first time. Following the artist's early death in 2016, the Kunstmuseum Ahlen has taken the estate of Andreas Horlitz into its care in accordance with his wishes. Coming from photography, Andreas Horlitz (1955–2016) created an intellectually challenging and sensually appealing oeuvre in various visual media and materials. The focus of the presentation was on his often large-format light boxes, which combine photographic sharpness of detail with the sensual radiance of pure colored light. His glass and mirror works were also on display, in which Andreas Horlitz developed completely new and astonishing forms of portraiture from scientific imaging processes. His exciting “copy montages”, a process of photographic double exposure that Horlitz brought to the highest level of mastery, rounded off the selection.
