Tina Blau
Eine Impressionistin
aus Wien

11/07/26–01/11/26

She masterfully captures the light as it breaks through the clouds, the ripples on the water, or the smoke rising from the chimneys: Tina Blau (1845–1916) is rightly regarded as one of the most important Austrian landscape painters of her time. She enjoyed international success, traveled throughout Europe, and advocated vigorously and confidently for the artistic education of women. The Kunstmuseum Ahlen, in cooperation with the Museum Pfalzgalerie Kaiserslautern, presented the first museum exhibition of Tina Blau’s work in Germany. We combined our journey into the 19th century with a contemporary intervention by Rosa M Hessling: Her light installations, inspired by nature, water, and reflections, entered into a dialogue with Blau’s Impressionist paintings—an encounter between two artistic approaches that reveals the fascinating interplay of light and perception.
