Artists are specialists in uncertainties, experiments and border crossings. The Kunstmuseum Ahlen invited visitors to take a look at tomorrow and rethink our (global) lives. On display were videos, photographs, installations, sculptures and drawings by 19 international artists from Germany, Belgium, Spain, Israel, Turkey and the USA.
Our society, which in recent years has been characterized by maximum functionality and efficiency, has long been living in chronic crisis mode. The coronavirus pandemic has only exacerbated this and made it more apparent: mobility and productivity have almost come to a standstill. Global exchange processes no longer functioned, forms of employment proved to be fragile and ways of life vulnerable. The “everything goes” became a “nothing goes”. The limits to growth became clearly visible. This makes the question all the more pressing: How do we want to live? How can we do justice to future generations? What fundamental changes are necessary to achieve this? Is there perhaps an opportunity in the crisis? It seems that we need a new beginning, a “reset”!
