The artist duo Anna (1936–2020) and Bernhard Johannes Blume (1937–2011) turned everyday life on its head with their photographs, drawings and performances. Between the 1970s and the 2010s, they created photographic series that reduced the mundane to absurdity – with anarchic humour and an unflinching gaze on the middle-class world of post-war Germany. The Kunstmuseum Ahlen is dedicating an exhibition to this internationally renowned artistic couple: small- and large-format black-and-white photographs, Polaroid series and drawings from the estate of Anna and Bernhard Blume are presented in dialogue with contemporary video art. The exhibition title refers to the order of things, which the artist couple exposed as an illusion. What unfolds in their visual world is bizarre, at times outrageous and, on the whole, almost unbelievable – a thing of impossibility!
