From 24 to 27 August 2021, pupils from the art classes at Fritz Winter Comprehensive School worked together with artist Frank Bölter on an impressive work of art entitled ‘The Great Folding’: an ‘origami pop-up architecture’ of the ‘old’ Ahlen Town Hall, which is threatened with demolition. This project was inspired by the concurrent exhibition ‘Beat Zoderer. Foldings and other events’ at the Kunstmuseum Ahlen. The art installation of folded cardboard elements was set up in various public places in Ahlen, creating a unique combination of art, performance and participatory theatre. Frank Bölter is known for his spectacular folding actions, in which the participants are connected with each other in creative processes. The action ended with a public inauguration of the unfolded town hall. After the project was completed, it was managed independently by the participants and could be used temporarily as a meeting place and cultural centre.
