Fruit promises many pleasures: its fragrance, its rich colours – from lemon yellow to cherry red to apple green – but above all its delicious taste make it irresistibly tempting! No wonder that fruit has played an important role in art and art history for centuries – as attractive models in still lifes, but also as symbols of sensuality and the Fall, of prosperity and transience, of Bacchanalian feasts and Christian passion. For the first time in North Rhine-Westphalia, the Kunstmuseum Ahlen exhibited around 100 works from the unique collection of the Rainer Wild Art Foundation. Paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures and videos by renowned artists of the 20th and 21st centuries vividly illustrated a variety of approaches to the aesthetics and symbolic power of fruit.
