Sandra del Pilar

Narziss am Fenster

02/06/19–11/08/19

In her exhibition, Sandra del Pilar (*1973) took up the myth of Narcissus, who looks at his reflected face in the water. In her work, however, the beautiful son of the gods does not sit at a spring; in her work, Narcissus sits at a window, in the pane of which he can see himself while simultaneously observing the world. This simultaneous observation of parallel realities is symbolic of the artist's paintings. Consisting of several staggered, transparent layers that penetrate, conceal and reveal each other, they show different, sometimes contradictory views. The surface of the painting becomes permeable and at the same time reflects us. It reflects aesthetically, excitingly and surprisingly on the image as a medium of visibility.
