Timm Ulrichs (*1940), “first living work of art” and “total artist”, poetic word juggler and self-deprecating great-grandson of Dada, has been associated with the Kunstmuseum Ahlen for many years. Around 100 works, multiples (editions) and unique pieces, can be found in the collection of the Theodor F. Leifeld Foundation. Reason enough to dedicate a solo exhibition to him on the occasion of the museum's 30th anniversary. Ulrichs sees art as the materialization of ideas - and as a reflection on what art is, wants to be and could be. The contradictions and absurdities of real life become transparent in his objects, photographs, collages and actions and find their stage in the museum. Just as theater only works if there is an audience that accepts the rules of the role play, Timm Ulrichs' artistic cosmos is based on communication. The focus is on people as relational beings. I - you - he, she, it - we - you - they: Along the railing of personal pronouns, which linguistically capture all perspectives on the world, the entertaining yet profound exhibition tour guided visitors* through Ulrich's expansive universe, in which death also and especially plays an essential role.
